AP Statistics is a writing class with numbers in it.
The calculations in AP Statistics are done on a calculator. The points are earned in the sentences around them: conditions, interpretations, and conclusions in context.

What AP Statistics tutoring looks like with us
AP Statistics is usually the AP math course where strong math students are most surprised by their score. A correct number with a vague conclusion often earns partial credit at best.
Your tutor follows your class and practices the language of statistics in every session: describing distributions, checking conditions, and writing conclusions that mention the parameter and the context.
The 9 units of AP Statistics
| Unit | Topics | Exam weight |
|---|---|---|
| 01 | Exploring One Variable DataDisplays, center and spread, z scores, normal distributions | 15 to 23% |
| 02 | Exploring Two Variable DataScatterplots, correlation, least squares regression, residuals | 5 to 7% |
| 03 | Collecting DataSampling methods, bias, experiments vs observational studies, blocking | 12 to 15% |
| 04 | Probability, Random Variables, and Probability DistributionsProbability rules, conditional probability, binomial and geometric distributions | 10 to 20% |
| 05 | Sampling DistributionsSampling distributions of proportions and means, Central Limit Theorem | 7 to 12% |
| 06 | Inference for Categorical Data: ProportionsConfidence intervals and significance tests for proportions, errors and power | 12 to 15% |
| 07 | Inference for Quantitative Data: Meanst intervals and t tests, paired data, two sample procedures | 10 to 18% |
| 08 | Inference for Categorical Data: Chi SquareGoodness of fit, homogeneity, independence | 2 to 5% |
| 09 | Inference for Quantitative Data: SlopesInference for the slope of a regression line | 2 to 5% |

How the AP Statistics exam is built
| Section | Questions | Time | Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Section I | 40 multiple choice | 90 min | 50% |
| Section II | 6 free response (5 short, 1 investigative task) | 90 min | 50% |
Hybrid digital, with free response handwritten. A graphing calculator is allowed and a formula sheet and tables are provided.
Where students lose points in AP Statistics
Conclusions without context
"Reject the null" alone earns little. We practice full conclusions that name the parameter, the evidence, and the context.
Checking conditions
Random, independence, and normality conditions must be stated and checked, not just listed. We make this a habit.
Study design
Experiment vs observational study and what you can conclude from each is tested every year. We practice it with real examples.
The investigative task
The last free response question tests something slightly beyond the course. We practice thinking through unfamiliar setups calmly.
What a typical session looks like
- First 5 min
Check in on class: what was taught this week, what is due, and when the next test is.
- Main block
Work through the topic that matters most right now, using your actual homework or class problems.
- Practice
Exam style questions on the same topic, scored the way AP readers score them.
- Last 5 min
A short plan for the week, and the topic for this week's worksheet.
- After
Our support team sends the worksheet, marks it, and returns a written score report and a retest on the weak spots. Parents get a copy.
